Halloween is just around the corner and that means many excited, sugar crazed kids running around the neighborhood. But what else is Halloween? It’s a pet owner's worst nightmare. Us puppy owners are anticipating barking and holding back our furry little friends from stampeding through the door every time it rings and a child says “Trick or treat!”.
Oh my! Obviously we can’t forget to mention that adorable (god awful) costume (dog tormenting suit) that we bought for our pups to wear! Oh, a costume for me? Sorry, friend -- I'll go in my birthday suit this year, thank you very much. As humans, we love dressing up our pups, taking a great abundance of pictures, and showing them off; but to our four legged friends, it’s a cruel punishment that they’ll never understand. Trust me, the puppy dog eyes and other evil looks I get from my dog, says it all. If our pup can’t guilt trip us into taking their costume off, they’ll do it themselves. They will rip if off their furry bodies one item at a time, tearing it up as they go, until there is nothing left of it- besides the many shreds of fabric that we now get the reward of cleaning up. So this Halloween, as you become increasingly tempted to tranquilize your furry friend for the night as he misbehaves...barking and whining and destroying that $40 costume you bought…remember, it’s a ruff life.

The applications of technology has made our generation so easily distracted and forgetful that we’d all lose our heads if they weren’t attached to our bodies. In fact, so many of us would be like Dory from Finding Nemo. Or do you not remember who Dory is because you were too busy on your phone during the movie? The article “8 Ways Technology Makes You Stupid”, identifies through a survey of which 2400 teachers participated in that, “Some 87 percent of teachers agreed with the statement, “today’s digital technologies are creating an easily distracted generation with short attention spans,” while 64 percent agreed with the idea that “today’s digital technologies do more to distract students than to help them academically"” (Hiscott). Sounds like hitting the books does better than “hitting the internet” because- wait, what were we looking up again? https://www.globalvillagespace.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/untitled1-min.jpg
This website shares some of the ways that social media may be a distraction for you but, also offers ways to avoid distractions caused by technology. Still not convinced? Does this just sound like some BS that your parents tell you everyday? This article should be a real eye-opener for you: Millennials have gotten to a point where smartphones can be an addiction. The consequences of excessive technology use can be greater than just a distraction, it may be psychologically damaging. Nothing sticks. Nothing sticks in your mind. Nothing sticks in your mind long enough for you to remember. Nothing sticks in your mind long enough for you to remember for extended periods of time- information doesn’t reach the long term memory portion of your brain. Do you remember? Do you remember the route to your grandparents house? Or do you still have to pull out that GPS every time you visit, no matter how many times that is. Technology has made our brains as foggy as a mid October morning- ya, it must be really difficult to clearly remember anything through that kind of blur. The use of technology has manipulated our brains to focus on so many things at once that millennials struggle to remember anything if they can rely on technology for it.
That’s why you never remember how to get to Grandpa and Grandma’s house, no matter how many times you go there. You know you’re GPS will guide you to the destination so, you’re mind wanders elsewhere and you don’t focus on the roads that you take. So go ahead and daydream about that yummy turkey Grandma has likely made, or think about all of the small talk that you have to make with your extended family- yes work is good, I’m doing well thanks, oh, how’re the kids doing? Oh no! Did you just miss your exit? Did you forget which exit your GPS told you to take? Don’t worry, your little helper will reroute and get you there anyways! No need to remember those silly directions! Let's just hope the battery doesn't run out on that GPS; we rely too much on it for that to happen. |
